A public-service announcement

Hello again, readers! I apologize for leaving this site to the whistling winds and tumbleweed for so long, but I have been otherwise engaged. I’m not sure whether I will want to return to blogging here in due course, but I’ll let you know about that when the time comes. In the meantime you should all be reading The Awl?

So happy for a moment there – and suddenly so sad.

But if you read the Awl you will be happy?

Not intending any pressure okay and thanks for the bone and, you know, the awl is amusing enough and that but it lacks the challenge Unspeak presented to extend one’s reach. So if you are moving along I thank you for the intellectual/moral exercise, not to mention enlightenment (there’s a term for that, isn’t there – paralipsis?) and I will keep an eye out for your upcoming triumphs. And publications.

By the way, I look forward to seeing your “space” appearing in the Guardian’s Writers’ Rooms. Surely it’s about time?

    Hi Steven
Sorry to hear that you are having quibbles about blogging again. Still, having given blogging a bit of a go, I can understand why. There are so many awful, awful people on the internet. One comes to the realisation that they are not waiting for a Promethean figure to enlighten them with the truth, but are really content rooting in the pigswill of Littlejohn/Heffer hate-filled cliches. And this is Comment is Free I’m talking about.

That’s me mixed enough metaphors for one day.

If I really were in retirement, I’m pretty sure nothing could tempt me out of it. But!…
